Recognition of language courses in BA Sociology Module 10.2

The language courses are offered by the zhb 'Foreign Languages' department and can be credited as part of the module "10.2 Practical module" as follows:

I Language courses of 2 SWS

  • for example: Japanese A1.1 or Swedish A2.2
  • These courses generally cover half a GeR level, e.g. the first part of A1 (A1.1) or the second part of A2 (A2.2).
  • Language courses of 2 SWS result in 3 credits + grade.
  • A further credit can be earned by writing a reflection: Language course 2 SWS à 3 credits + reflection à 1 credit = 4 credits
  • The reflection must be uploaded in the Moodle room "BA Sociology Module 10.2 Practical Module"
  • Information on the reflection as additional work (scope, key questions, assessment and submission) will be provided in the Moodle room. You can obtain the access key to the Moodle room from your lecturer or the course coordinator.
  • The course certificates (2 SWS/3 credits) can be downloaded via the course platform of the zhb foreign languages section; please submit them to the Examinations Office (Team 2) for crediting in BOSS.
  • The additional credit (reflection) will be forwarded to the Examination Office via the Study Coordination Office.

II Language courses of 4 SWS

  • for example: French A1 or Spanish A2
  • These courses cover an entire GeR level, e.g. A1 or A2.
  • Language courses of 4 SWS result in 6 credits + grade. You will earn a sufficient number of credits through these courses; it is not necessary to write a reflection. It is not possible to reduce the number of SWS or credits through a personalized reduction of the performance requirements.
  • The transcripts of records (4 SWS/6 credits) can be downloaded via the zhb course platform for foreign languages.
  • Submit the transcripts of records to the Examinations Office (Team 2) for recognition in BOSS.

III Language courses of 3 SWS

  • Up to now, only the Business Communication C1 and English C2 courses in modern foreign languages have comprised 3 SWS. These courses consist of 2 SWS face-to-face teaching + 1 SWS accompanied self-study.
  • Language courses of 3 SWS award 4 credits + grade. You will acquire a sufficient number of credits through these courses. It is not necessary to write a reflection.
  • The certificates of achievement (3 SWS/4 credits) can be downloaded from the zhb course platform for foreign languages. Please submit these to the Examinations Office (Team 2) for recognition in BOSS.

Note: International students whose native language is not German can also choose to attend the "German as a foreign language" courses to earn credits.

Information on the recognition of writing courses

The zhb Department of Foreign Languages runs the writing workshop w.space. The services offered by the writing workshop are primarily aimed at providing support and advice for academic writing and presentation projects and aregenerally not credited. In exceptional cases, up to 2 credits can be earned. No grades are awarded.

The Writing Skills courses for English are an exception: these conclude with a graded certificate of achievement of 2 SWS / 3 credits. In consultation with the lecturer, 4 credits can be earned for these courses on the basis of an additional writing-related performance. The course descriptions can be found on the zhb Foreign Languages course platform .
