The XX ISA World Congress of Sociology (https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/conferences/world-congress/melbourne-2023) took place in Melbourne, Australia, from 25 June to 1 July 2023 and was held in a hybrid format, and a total of 4701 people attended the congress.
This World Congress of Sociology focused this year on “how sociologists worldwide can (and do) contribute to the understanding of the resurgent authoritarianism and analyze the new entanglements of religions, politics, and economies. It also focused on how sociologists engage (physically and critically) in the formidable social movements we are witnessing today in different parts of the world and in a renascent civil society.”
In this context, the sfs TU Dortmund were part of this Congress and organised a panel on "Sociological Perspectives on Social Innovation in Education" within the Research Committee RC04 Sociology of Education. This panel was organised by Karina Maldonado-Mariscal, who was also elected this year as Vice-President for Europe on the ISA Board of RC04 Sociology of Education.
The panel "Sociological Perspectives on Social Innovation in Education" took place on 27 June 2023 in a hybrid format. In this panel, the focus was on a sociological approach that recognises innovation in education as a result of local needs to change and implement alternative models of education, but above all to include society in the design and delivery of education. Different perspectives of social innovation in education were discussed, from a theoretical but also empirical perspectives, with research from Germany, Finland, Argentina, the Republic of Korea, India and Peru.
