How do narratives about nature and society influence socio-ecological transformation? The ad hoc group ‘Narrative Power in Planetary Discourse – Between Catalyst and Barrier for a Just Socio-Ecological Transformation’ examines how discourses on climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution are shaped by power relations.
Political, media and climate activist narratives interact and shape realities. From the global shift to the right to media coverage of natural disasters. Which actors dominate these discourses? How do social mobilisation movements arise? And how do social inequalities influence discursive patterns of interpretation?
We invited submissions of research from the fields of knowledge and environmental sociology, political ecology, social movement research and intersectional discourse analysis. Qualitative and quantitative studies were welcome, ranging from discourse analyses and historical comparisons to intersectional perspectives. Early-career researchers were particularly encouraged to participate.
