Transfer of office
During today's meeting of the faculty council, our highly esteemed colleague, Prof. Dr. Michael Meuser, was bid farewell to and Prof. Dr. Mona Motakef was warmly welcomed as his successor.
Prof. Dr. Michael Meuser
Michael Meuser, Professor of Sociology of Gender Relations since 2007, has retired from the Faculty Council. He has left his mark on gender studies in the German-speaking world through a wide range of research projects, including projects on fathers on parental leave, on the body practices of young migrants or on gender in youth scenes. In particular, he has given important impulses to research into masculinity in his always objective manner, but has also promoted the development of qualitative methods.
Not only in research and teaching, but also in the committee work of the university and beyond, Michael Meuser has continued to be involved, e.g. as a long-standing vice-dean, as spokesperson of the DGS section "Sociology of the Body and Sport" and as deputy chairman of the DGS. Due to his integrity and the high respect for his person on all sides, he has helped shape important processes and contributed to the visibility of sociology in Dortmund.
Fortunately, Michael Meuser will remain with the faculty as head of a recently started DFG project on the parental construction of the sexuality of their children. Nevertheless, he already leaves "big footprints" for his successor, Mona Motakef.
