Nicole Burzan, Dean of the department, welcomed Bernd Sommer to his inaugural lecture, which was successfully held at the TU Dortmund University on January 25, 2023 as part of the newly initiated Social Science Colloquium of the UA Ruhr.

Professor Bernd Sommer, Professor of Environmental Sociology with a focus on transformation research, gave his inaugural lecture on the topic:

Social-ecological Transforamtion & Sustainability. Outline of a Sociological Research Agenda.

The starting point of his presentation was overview on the current transformation discourse with background information, findings and concepts. Afterwards, Bernd Sommer drew attention to the roles of sociology in the field of socio-ecological transformation research. Finally, he presented the environmental sociology of Dortmund with a focus on transformation research.

After the inaugural lecture, there was still the opportunity for scientific exchange with colleagues from the Technical University of Dortmund and the UA Ruhr.
