The ATMo² project (incentive-based transformation and modeling of mobility behavior) of the two Ruhr region universities of Duisburg-Essen and Dortmund is researching and developing low-investment options for an incentive-based change in mobility behavior. The effectiveness of different measures is being researched in the context of different population groups. The project is funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Nature and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The current sustainability goals, not only in NRW, can only be achieved if the transport sector also makes substantial contributions to the reduction of climate-damaging greenhouse gases. In this area, considerable efforts must be made in the coming years to achieve not only a turnaround in drive systems, but also a real turnaround in transport and mobility practices.

The ATMo² project will take an interdisciplinary approach to developing instruments for soft behavioral control that are not only effective (in terms of climate protection) and economically viable, but also accepted by those affected.

The project builds on findings from the 2020-2023 InnaMoRuhr project, which focused on the universities of the Ruhr Area.

The research field Sociology of Technology at the Social Research Center Dortmund (Prof. Dr. Johannes Weyer) is coordinating the project. Other project participants are:
