Conference report “Wechselseitige Irritation” (Mutual Irritatio) published in Soziopolis

The first joint conference of the DGS sections on ‘Women’s and Gender Studies’ and ‘Sociological Theory’ met with an exceptionally positive response. The conference was organised by Prof. Mona Motakef and Dr. Katharina Hoppe (University of Frankfurt). A report by Prof. Mechthild Bereswill (University of Kassel) and Prof. Gudrun Ehlert (Mittweida University of Applied Sciences) has now been published on Soziopolis.

In it, the authors summarise: “In conclusion, it can be stated that this was a highly ambitious conference and, at the same time, a promising collaboration between the two DGS sections. The encouragingly high turnout and the many contributions give cause for optimism that the theoretical discourses will be continued, theories further developed, mutually opened up and substantiated. The impeccably organised conference offered little scope for open discourse due to the exclusively frontal communication culture, which was particularly a pity because all the contributions invited further joint reflection and discussion. Continuing this process in other venues and in other formats seems highly worthwhile. This makes the announcement that the organisers are planning a timely publication of the papers all the more welcome, as these will provide an excellent basis for further debates.”
