Statement on the preservation of the subject of social sciences

In a statement, the German Sociological Association criticizes the marginalization of sociology in the teacher training program for social science school subjects in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Ministry of Schools and Education of North Rhine-Westphalia wants to abolish the subject of social sciences (political science, sociology and economics) for the teaching profession and replace it with the subject of economics-politics. The German Sociological Association criticizes this plan because it would significantly worsen the professional competence of teachers by marginalizing sociology in the curriculum, and objects to the plan as scientifically and curricularly inappropriate.
